Police give more information about why they sealed off a part of Warwick

Police said that they sealed off part of Warwick yesterday (Sunday) after a man allegedly pointed an air rifle at officers.
Officers said yesterday that a 33-year-old man was arrested but today (Monday) they confirmed that he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers and possession of a firearm.

Hide AdPolice went to his house to carry out a 'safe and well' check at his house in Emscote Road - but when they arrived he allegedly pointed a weapon at them.
As we reported yesterday, police cordoned off an area near his house and closed the roads near Tesco.
There was a large police presence in the area for most of the afternoon.
The man was bailed until the end of the month for these offences and then detained under the Mental Health Act.

Hide AdThis was not the first incident when people were arrested for assaults on police officers this weekend.
Yesterday evening, an officer was allegedly kicked in the head after he tried to detain a woman suspected of driving a stolen car on the A46 near Warwick (as we reported earlier).
A 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence of drugs and theft of a motor vehicle.
Another officer was allegedly punched to the head by a 25-year-old man from Nuneaton at the Caludon Centre in Coventry yesterday (Sunday February 20). After a Mental Health Assessment established he had capacity he was arrested.

Hide AdThe same man is alleged to have attempted to head butt a police officer while in custody at Leamington Justice Centre.
He was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court today.
