In their 33rd annual report, the Board of the Hospital of St Cross acknowledged with pleasure a considerable increase in the workpeople’s contribution and added that it was necessary to remind supporters of the hospital and the public of the very large increase in the cost of all supplies. The medical report showed that 726 in-patients, 966 out-patients and 101 dental patients had been treated during the year.

Two travelling post office trains, which have called at Rugby since 1838, will no longer stop here, but run through, calling at Coventry and Birmingham. The trains, one of which was involved in the Great Train Robbery, run between Euston and Crewe. A post office spokesman said the re-routing was because of extension of line electrification and rescheduling and to gain a ‘bigger coverage of mail’. From Monday there will be re-timing of collections, about 15 minutes earlier, from some post boxes for outgoing mail in Rugby.

Hide AdCallous catnappers may have struck again - leaving a trail of anguished pet owners. Residents of Rugby’s Ashlawn estate are puzzled as dozens of cats have disappeared without a trace - and, in the latest spate, four cats from the same area went missing. Some pet owners won’t rule out the chance that catnappers are to blame - and warn other cat owners to be vigilant as they wait for news of their lost pets. Shops on the estate are littered with lost cat notices.
