Leamington and Warwick fundraisers are top in region for cancer support
The area’s Cancer Research UK fundraising committee raised £65,000 in the year running up to April - which was the most out of a region that includes Warwickshire, North Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
The group’s 16 members, many of whom have full-time jobs, regularly collect funds in the Parade in Leamington and at supermarkets, but they also take time to organise events including a recent fashion show, and an afternoon tea party and cake-decorating day taking place next month.

“All of us are touched by cancer at some point in out lives. Thank goodness that now a lot of people are cured and that’s what we work for.
“Without the people of Leamington and Warwick supporting us, we could not do it.”
Some £10,000 of last year’s fundraising came from funeral donations, while £25,000 came from businesses and individuals who held their own events.
Next month, ticket sales on May 22 for Calender Girls at the Loft Theatre will be donated to the group.
