Record-breaking GCSE success for Rugby High School
A total of 80 per cent of its Year 11 students were awarded the top grades of A* or A – a six per cent increase on last year – and 99 per cent earned at least five A*-C passes, including English and maths.
Five students obtained ten A*’s.
The school said that this year the Government’s focus had switched from raw results to looking at progress as a measure of how well a school is providing for its students. More than 90 per cent of the high school’s students made better than expected progress in English and 84 per cent made better than expected progress in maths.

“Pursuing hobbies and interests that don’t have a GCSE grade attached to them helps students to lead a healthy and balanced life. This is really important.
“Some Year 11 students chose to take their silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. Others danced, played a musical instrument, appeared in the school’s production of The Taming of the Shrew, represented the county and, in one case, the country, in their chosen sport.”
