In June, the roses are star performers, with large blooms rambling through holly and yew, and bush roses in the borders amidst abundant perennials.
Blue geranium, tall yellow verbascum and many-coloured salvia will be joined by yellow and orange heleniums and pink and white phlox by the end of June.
This year’s project has been clearing old compost bins and a decrepit shed from under the ancient beech at the top of the garden.
