HOCKEY SLIDESHOW: Rugby Men's 2nds v Stourport
Edgbaston 3
REWHC Men’s 1st XI 1
Edgbaston worked hard to minimise the number of short corners they gave away. Despite this six shorts were conceded in the first half, but Rugby were unable to capitalise. Edgbaston, however, did manage to score, from a somewhat scuffed effort.
In the second half Rugby managed to pull one back, when Edbaston gave away on the 25 and Rugby found Szymon unmarked who slotted his 15th goal in five games past a helpless Edgbaston keeper.

Hide AdRugby looked to be on the way back, and kept up the pressure. In response, Edgbaston gained a couple of shorts themselves, firing one towards the right post, only to be denied by a diving goalkeeper. The second, slapped at the goal, on to the defender’s foot and then tapped in to make it 2-1 to Edgbaston. In response, Rugby found yet another foot in the D to get a final short corner. Syzmon was able to side step the defensive runner but the goalkepper managed to get a foot to the ball and set up a strong Edge counter attack which saw them put the game out of reach.
REWHC Men’s 2nd XI 2
Stourport 1
Positive play in the first half led to Rugby going 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes, Ollie and Kristian Brown scoring (KB later had a flick saved by a stand-in keeper).
Increased tempers in the second half disrupted Rugby’s play slightly. Stourport managed to scored a lucky deflection, the forward having no idea where the ball ended up. Good defensive pressure and bad finishing from Rugby kept the score at 2-1.
George Gutteridge was Man of the Match with a great midfield performance.

Hide AdPete Crisford turned up at half time and inspired the Men’s 3s to their first win of the season, 3-2 against Harborne.
Goals came from Gaz Unett, Rob Best, and James McGee, with his first ever league goal.
Tom Webb played well in goal as is becoming the norm, but it was Adam Hewitt who won the Man of the Match vote. Great performance by the whole team to pick up such an important win.

Warwick Uni 0
A great team effort powered Rugby 5s to a 2-0 victory over Warwick Uni. Good pressure and simple passing allowed Rugby to trap Warwick in their half for most of the first half, with the defence holding strong against a few fast Warwick counter attacks. The end of the first half saw Rugby up 1-0 from a short corner goal by Ollie.

Hide AdDespite a strong start to the second half neither team were able to convert their chances, with Paddy smashing a shot just over the top corner and Warwick hitting the post.
In the dying minutes Rugby made it a 2-0 from a successful short corner routine that led to Ollie putting in his second of the game by tapping in a shot from Ethan. Man of the Match: Euan.

REWHC Ladies 2nd XI 1
Balsall & Berkswell 1
Ladies 2s picked up a point against top of the league Berkswell 1s with a draw at Bilton.
Rugby had an absolutely storming game and everyone gave 150%. They moved across the pitch as a unit and right from the start Berkswell struggled to get through. Rugby’s goal came from a short corner, Evie was in the right place and put it past the keeper from the left post.

Hide AdA fantastic team performance, the passing and possession was much better, every player on the pitch had a great game, votes for Man of the Match going to goalie Emma, Natalee, Hannah and Evie, with Emily just beating them to it for a solid performance in defence.
Warwick Uni 0
REWHC Ladies 3rd XI 2
Rugby piled on the pressure from the start and had six penalty corners which they couldn’t convert. The first goal came late in the first half with lovely passing from Maria and a cross across goal from Jacqui for Esther to convert.
A stern half-time team talk outlining Rugby not playing their game and bunching saw the second half start better. Lots of pressure, chances and good play saw Rugby rewarded with their second from an excellent stoke from Nadine for Hannah to push in at the back post.
The defence held off some pressure from Warwick with Ella protecting her goal. Well done ladies, another win and a clean sheet.
Player of the match Ellen and Barrie Maria.
